This Mockingbird, (an addition to my songbird card series) was completed for a dear Texan friend of mine. My friend lives here in Chicagoland now and she often speaks of how she misses the lovely concerts Mockingbirds graced her with down south. Though Mockingbirds are the state bird of Texas they are widespread throughout the west. I grew up with them in California and have wonderful memories of "teaching" the local birds new whistles. They often sang at dusk which is why I included the full moon in this portrait. And just to assure my friend that this is indeed a "Texan" Mockingbird I placed him in a Pecan tree...the state tree of course!

What a lovely idea Mary and beautifully done. You are a whizz with Adobe Illustrator! Congratulations on your recent award and love the leaf painting very much.

Thank you Tracy! I'm having way too much fun with this program! I just completed a graphic image for the artist oil clean-up fundraiser, (above) that Paul Jackson started. I have yet to send it in but will do so tonight. It is always such a thrill to hear from you!

Well, Mary, I'm way behind on blogs once again, but I HAVE to leave a comment for you on this one -- just LOVE it!! The shapes and the colors are so wonderful -- and such a marvelous moody feel to the whole piece!!

Oh boy! A drop in from my famous CA friend! Thanks Chris! Truth be told, I wasn't too thrilled about doing a mockingbird. Even though their song is out of this world, their plummage is not. It's pretty boring as a matter of fact! But that's not to say there aren't possiblities with surrounding atmosphere to dress things up a bit...
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I know how extremely busy you are!
